Students at Abbey Gate College have been in fine voice at a concert in Poland.

The chapel choir of the Chester school was on a concert tour of the country.

They were based in Krakow for two concerts before giving further concerts in Trezbenia and Miechow.

At St Mary’s Church in Krakow, the choir sang for 20 minutes, leading into the daily altar opening ceremony to a packed church of tourists.

The programmes of music performed by the choir ranged from the music of Gabrielli to Vaughan Williams, as well as music by Polish composers including Tootus Tuus by Henryck Gorecki .

Later this academic year, the choir will be singing a concert for the Chester Music Club, followed in April by an evensong in St Paul’s Cathedral London and finally a week of evensongs in Hereford Cathedral in July.

Director of music Stewart Smith said: “I am very grateful to all the parents of the choir for their support in fundraising to enable such a memorable tour to take place.

“All the concerts were performed to packed audiences in the most magnificent buildings but perhaps the children will most fondly remember the flashmob they performed in Krakow Central Square.”
