This week, HRH Prince Edward was in Chester to help celebrate 175 years of the University of Chester.

To date, the university is one of the oldest English higher education establishments of any kind, pre-dating all but Oxford, Cambridge, London and Durham, and its original buildings in the city of Chester were the first in the country to be purpose-built for the professional training of teachers.

In light of the university’s birthday, they have dug out some old photographs, some going back hundreds of years, including other Royal visits, student life and images of the building.
