Rihanna

The look: Dark outlines and bright block colours.

"Her 60s-style eyes and 80s bold lips make a strong statement but the whole look is brought up-to-date with a modern, contemporary edge," says Revlon make-up artist Ella Bradley.

Face: Rihanna's face has a perfect finish and looks almost sculpted with areas of highlight and shading used to enhance the contours.

Eyes: Use Revlon Colourstay Liquid Eye Liner (£7.82) to draw the line over the top lid of the eye. Start on the outside edge of eye area and use the nylon tip point shape of the liner to make a flick shape.

Use it on a slant and pull it across the lid following the shape of your eyelid and taper it off as you reach the inside corner of the eye. Use three or four individual false lashes to create the feline eye shape at the outer edges.

Lips: Revlon Matte Lipstick in Pink Pout (£7.13) is perfect for a similar dramatic punchy lip colour but with a more pinkish tone. Apply once, blot with tissue, then reapply to build up a more intense colour.

Gwyneth Paltrow

The look: Fresh and sensual.

"Gwyneth has a natural radiance here which can be achieved by using an illuminating primer all over the face to give a glow to the skin," recommends Estee Lauder international make-up artist Alan Pan.

Face: Apply a light and luminous foundation such as Estee Lauder Nutritious Vita-Mineral Foundation (£23) all over the skin, making sure you use a foundation brush to get an all-over even finish.

By using a cream blusher on the cheeks such as Estee Lauder Satin Creme Blush in Nude Light (£21.53), Gwyneth's skin looks sun-kissed and fresh. Apply to apples of the cheeks to create a natural look and blend up the cheekbone towards the ear.

Eyes: Choose a cream coloured eye shadow like Estee Lauder Double Wear Shadowcreme in Ivory Lace (£13.70).

Lips: Estee Lauder Pure Color Gloss Stick in Pink Sorbet (£14.68) will give a similar subtle colour and just the right amount of gloss.

Kate Moss

The look: Daytime rock chick.

"A variation on the vamp look that you would wear in the evening - a flawless complexion and subtle smoky eyes," explains Nicolas Degennes, Givenchy make-up artistic director.

FACE: Use a light reflecting foundation such as Givenchy Photo'Perfexion in Perfect Vanilla (£25.45).

Eyes: To really create subtle smoky eyes with thick and dramatic lashes, use a soft kohl pencil and lashings of volumising mascara like Givenchy Magic Kajal (£12.23) and Givenchy Phenomen'Eyes Mascara (£18.11) which really targets the lashes at the root.

Let the black Kajal run a little bit underneath the eye and gently correct with loose powder in order to fix the result.

Lips: Use a lightly tinted balm to keep lips smooth and slightly glossed.

Angelina Jolie

The look: Natural with a smouldering edge.

"Angelina's gone for a modern glamour look, the staple this summer - dark smouldering eyes and nude lips. It's natural yet completely sophisticated," says Max Factor's make-up artist Caroline Barnes.

Face: Use Max Factor Miracle Touch Foundation (£11.95) for a flawless natural look.

Eyes: To create rich brown smoky eyes apply Max Factor Earth Spirits Eyeshadow in Terra Firma (£4.45) to the outer corners of the lids and up into the sockets, then blend away the edges.

Sweep Max Factor Masterpiece Glide & Define Liquid Eyeliner in Black (£6.99) across the top lid and layer lashes with Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara (£10.99) to create a wide bright-eyed effect.

Lips: Complete the look with nude lips such as Max Factor Lipfinity in Essential Natural (£10.99).

Max factor stockists: Nationwide.

Agyness Deyn

The look: Graphic eyes and low-key lips.

"This is no fuss impact make-up which requires few tools," says Lyndsey Alexander, MAC senior artist.

Face: On the skin use MAC Studio Sculpt Foundation (£22.02) buffed with a MAC #188 Face Brush (£24.47).

Eyes: The focus is firmly on the eyes. Use MAC Blue Peep plus Waveline Fluidline (£10.77 each) mixed together to create a vivid matte royal blue.

Apply with an angled brush for precision. Curl lashes and use a thin coat of MAC Zoomblack Mascara (£10.77) so as not to detract attention from the blue.

Lips: A slick of lip balm is all you need.
