The westbound carriageway of the M62 has reopened after a man fell to his death from a motorway bridge this morning (February 15).

The stretch between junction 7 for Widnes and junction 6 for Tarbock Island was closed for around six hours following the tragic incident, which occurred shortly before 10am, causing severe delays for motorists.

Merseyside Police had to complete an incident investigation before the carriageway reopened just after 4pm.

A spokesperson for Highways England said: "Traffic officers from the outstation at Newton-le-Willows worked around at junction 7 to help free hundreds of vehicles stuck between the junction and the incident, turning vehicles around on the westbound carriageway and freeing them via the entry slip road at junction 7."
