He said: “After the London Marathon last year, I wanted to just run a half - but a friendly chat in the pub turned this into me running one a month, and then to running 14 because it’s 2014. I wish I’d thought of it in 2001!”1 of 6Shan McCarthy, a mum of three from Crowton, ran to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. She said: “They gave brilliant support to my wonderful mum whilst she had cancer, I sadly lost her to this horrible disease 20 years ago aged only 47. “I wanted to run in her memory, and in admiration of another dearly loved family member who successfully fought cancer with amazing courage and strength.”2 of 6Gemma Rathbone, 30, from Helsby but now living in Leeds: “I grew up in Helsby but not being a runner or even remotely sporty I never even knew of the race. “I took up running in June 2012 to lose weight and improve my mental health (it has worked wonders). I am now an addicted club runner (member of Kirkstall Harriers as now live in Leeds) and so I finally heard of the Four Villages Half in my home village. I couldn't wait to sign up and am very excited about running through the villages. I do come back to the area regularly, but this will be really special. It is also the first time some of my family will be out to see me run - mum and aunty are going to be at mile 8 with Jelly Babies!”3 of 6Craig Thomas Davies, 40, from Leeswood in North Wales, is running to beat a personal best of 80 minutes.4 of 6Louise Price, a 44 year old administrator from Presteigne, Powys: “I entered the cancelled race last year. We were making plans for his 70th birthday (April 3, 2013) when he began feeling ill.
