Upton-by-Chester High School upper sixth form student Sam Hu has been invited to take part in the prestigious British Mathematical Olympiad.

Ten sixth form students were entered for the Senior Challenge, an individual test of Mathematical problem solving which took place on Thursday November 7, and all gained silver or bronze certificates.

Each year around 1,000 invitations to the British Mathematical Olympiad round one are sent to students who score highly in the Senior Challenge and Sam has been invited as ‘Best in School’.

The final will take place on November 29, and everyone at Upton-by-Chester High School wishes Sam every success.

Last academic year over 600,000 pupils from 4,000 schools took part in individual challenges, the UK's biggest national maths competitions. Each challenge leads into a follow-on Olympiad and ultimately the opportunity to represent the UK in the International Mathematical Olympiad.
