The wet weather didn’t dampen the weekend’s festivities at Whitby Park.

More than 1,000 Ellesmere Port residents turned out for the ‘Love Your Park’ event, organised by the council’s localities team to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday.

Cabinet member for environment Councillor Karen Shore said: “The Love Your Park event was a fantastic success.

“Activities on the day included make a crown and puzzle trail round the park provided by our library services, as well as guided tours around Whitby Hall.

“Smoothie bikes provided by Healthbox were really popular with the young and old and refreshments were enjoyed in the Queen’s birthday marquee provided by the park’s community café team.

“The Parkour was also well demonstrated not only by our local Parkour Collective but also the PK Monsters who’d travelled up from Kent for the weekend to use this fantastic facility.

“The event highlighted what an excellent ‘Green Flag’ facility residents’ have in their locality and after the recent pond works, fencing and ground maintenance works too, we very much hope that people will benefit from this.”

The Ellesmere Port locality team also launched its Whitby Park consultation, asking residents about their use of the park and what they’d like to see there.

This continues until September 4 and can be found online at www.ellesmereport.yourwestcheshire.co.uk or completed in Ellesmere Port Library.
