More than £4,000 was raised during a family fun day at The Rake in Little Stanney to make a dream come true for a brave Ellesmere Port two-year-old girl who is suffering from cancer.

Lacey-Mae Fletcher was just 22 months old when she was diagnosed in February with metastatic rhabdomyosarcoma type two – a cancer which is found in young children and a type that affects Lacey-Mae’s lungs.

She is currently undergoing both radiation therapy and chemotherapy, but mum Jordan Fletcher and dad Jack Jenkins were given the devastating news the treatment has a success rate of less than 10%.

Lacey-Mae’s dream is to visit Disneyland Paris with her family and, after hearing about her cause, the team at the Hungry Horse pub in Rake Lane, was determined to do its bit.

Thanks to the pub’s fundraiser, as well as a sterling community effort, more than enough money has been raised for the Disneyland Paris trip.

The fun day included pony rides, face painting, cake stalls, a fire engine, a sponsored car wash by Princess Villa football club and much more, including live music from local band Problem Child and special appearances by two local professional boxers, unbeaten Wirral lightweight Matt Fagan and Merseyside welterweight Mason Cartwright.

Later in the day there was a raffle, an auction and rock and roll bingo, with prizes generously donated by local businesses.

Prior to the event, the pub set a target of £2,500 but smashed that by raising an amazing £4,275.

Manager of the Rake, Gary Shanks, said: “The Rake is all about the community and family, which is why this cause struck such a chord with me and my team. It was great to see everyone come together and give so generously for such a worthy cause.”

The pub now plans to run a second event in November.
