A group of teenagers are in police custody following an incident which saw 'significant' damage caused to the former EPIC Leisure Centre in Ellesmere Port yesterday (Sunday May 31).

Six youths aged between 15 and 16 were arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage and public order offences at the ageing building on McGarva Way, which was recently replaced by the £15m Ellesmere Port Sports Village.

Five of the boys are still being questioned by officers and one of the arrested has been charged with a section 5 public order offence.

He has been released on bail will appear at West Cheshire Youth Court on July 8.

Inspector Darryl Jones from Ellesmere Port Neighbourhood Policing Unit said: "I would like to reassure the local community in Ellesmere Port that we are dedicated to dealing effectively with crime as well as anti-social behaviour, and officers will be carrying out additional patrols in the local area.”
