A seven-year-old girl from Neston completed an 11-mile bike ride on Sunday to raise money for a charity close to her heart.

Jessica Weaver rode from Hadlow station in Willaston to West Kirby to raise funds for Alder Hey Children’s Charity after her baby sister, Georgie, died at the hospital on the same day last year, aged just five days old.

Jessica’s mum, Emma Weaver, said: “A year ago our beautiful baby girl died aged five days.

“Georgie had been born without a windpipe and had no chance of survival. We were all devastated as life support was withdrawn and Georgie passed away in my arms.

“Since then we have focused on fundraising and Jess decided she wanted to do a sponsored trike ride. Alder Hey asked her to be a young ambassador for the charity because of her efforts. We were all so proud.”

Jess and her “trike support” crew completed the ride in under three hours and Emma said: “Jess would’ve been quicker if it wasn’t for me slowing her down!”

Jess was presented with a trophy at the finish line by Sara Braidwood of Breeze cycling and had her pick of the ice creams at Turners ice cream shop.

Along the way, donations were collected of £513.18 plus a cheque made payable to Alder Hey.

This amount takes the total on the justgiving.com page to more than £5,400, the majority of this being raised since Jess’ trike ride was advertised in March (the total was £1,615 prior to this), easily surpassing the family’s initial target of £3,000.
