CHESTER: Society of Thirteen meeting at the Grosvenor Museum at 7.30pm with talk on Dee Bridge Disaster 1847 by Dr Peter Lewis, a senior lecturer in the Department of Materials Engineering at The Open University. In this lecture the roots of a less well known railway disaster are identified. A new railway bridge over the Dee in Chester opened in September 1846. However, on May 24, 1847, a local train fell through the bridge. There were five deaths and nine serious injuries. Peter Lewis gives his forensic analysis of what happened and why. Visitors £6.
