Northwich Library will be displaying a fantastic new watercolour painting thanks to local artist Gordon Wilkinson.

Library staff spotted a picture of the painting in Cheshire Life magazine and got in touch with the artist for a copy.

They were delighted when he said that he would donate the original painting itself.

Gordon said: “I have been painting for Cheshire Life magazine for a number of years, providing original watercolours each month for their village features. The editor would provide me with a list of villages and towns for each month and I would choose the buildings and views I thought best, and paint them.

“The Northwich Library painting was painted as part of a Northwich feature; the library is a very beautiful old building and was therefore an obvious choice – in fact I don’t think a feature on Northwich would be complete without it.”

Local councillor Sam Naylor said: “It’s a really beautiful painting and we’re very grateful for Mr Wilkinson’s kind donation.

The watercolour has been given pride of place in the local studies and computer room at the Library, where all our visitors can enjoy it.”

Gordon started painting in acrylics twenty years ago before moving into the medium of watercolour.

Gordon’s work can often be seen exhibited in local libraries and art galleries. He conducts watercolour workshops and also teaches beginners and intermediate students at a number of local colleges.
