Gun slingers, bandits and Texas rangers are coming to a Cheshire tourist attraction this weekend (September 17-18).

Anderton Boat Lift, near Northwich, will be taken over by Lonestar, the country’s biggest Western re-enactment group.

This weekend of free family fun follows the huge success of the lift’s Viking weekend earlier in the year.

Gates at the lift open between 10.30am and 5pm.

The event will see the grounds of the attraction, known as the ‘Cathedral of the Canals’, transformed by authentic living history displays, including a mine and two small camps.

In the camps, visitors can view ‘Living History’, seeing for themselves how people in the Wild West lived and cooked without electricity and running water.

In addition, there will be will be two thrilling ‘live action’ shows on each day, starting at 11am and 2pm.

These will feature a dramatic ‘showdown’ between Mexican bandits and gold mine prospectors.

Throughout the day, visitors can see the sherriff and preacher trying to reform wrong-doers and troublesome cowboys.

Children can throw horseshoes and the visitors will encounter the Temperance Society inviting the public to sign the pledge.
