Chester’s Grosvenor Museum is being turned into a haunted house for Halloween.

The changes include a swarm of spiders in the Victorian Parlour, a murderous maid in the Victorian Kitchen, and a creepy portrait in the Stuart Dining Room.

Cabinet member for culture, leisure and wellbeing councillor Louise Gittins said: “This is a fantastic event for people of all ages, set in the beautiful surroundings of the historic Grosvenor Museum. “The building is over three hundred years old and the Youth Panel chose the Museum’s atmospheric Period House, which has room sets from different eras, for their Haunted House.

“The Youth Panel is a group of 14-18 year olds who work with museum staff on different projects around the museum, including events planning and exhibition development.

“They first decided last year that they wanted to do a big Halloween event at the museum, something which hasn’t been done before. The event was a success so they wanted to run it again this year.

“Youth Panel members worked with museum staff to plan creepy stories for each room, and then helped make props for the rooms. They’ll also be helping to run the event, so they can see how all their hard work pays off.”

On the evening of Saturday, October 31 visitors will be free to wander around the haunted house, plus there will be family friendly craft activities and Halloween food in the museum’s Newstead Gallery.

This free event runs from 6.30-8.30pm. There will also be other family friendly events in the museum in the week leading up to Halloween.
