Great British Bake Off returns to our screens

The seventh series of the show will see Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry return as judges

The Great British Bake Off returns to our screens this week.

And this series is tipped to set a new record for the most-watched programme of the year so far.

Last year’s final was the most-watched show of 2015, with a whopping 15.1 million people seeing Nadiya Hussain crowned Bake Off champion.

Wirral’s Paul Hollywood and national treasure Mary Berry will return as judges, with Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins returning to present the show.

This year’s contestants include a nurse, a pastor, a PE teacher and an aerospace engineer.

The oldest contestant in this year’s line-up will be Lee, a 67-year-old who has worked in various pastoral ministries for the past 30 years, while this year’s youngest contestant is Michael, a 20-year-old from London who is studying politics and economics in Durham.

Bake Off returns to BBC One on Wednesday at 8pm.
