Former Tory MP and TV personality to play evil queen... Oh, yes she is

Outspoken politician turned broadcaster Edwina Currie has landed the part of the wicked queen in a Northwich panto this Christmas.

The politician turned broadcaster is hoping her star turn at Memorial Court will be a ‘transport of delight, wholesome entertainment’.

A novice in the panto scene, Edwina joked she’s ‘not even sure’ she’ll be able to remember her lines and may make it up as she goes along – ‘just like politics, really’, she added.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs – Anton Benson Productions’ fifth outing in Northwich – will be the inaugural panto at the £14.1million venue, which boasts a multi-purpose theatre.

Edwina’s role follows stints on reality shows Strictly Come Dancing and last year’s I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here.

“You have to say yes to these chances,” she said.

“The moment you start to refuse, the offers dry up and as you get older, you begin on that long downhill path.

“Not ready to do that yet!

“It’ll be great to do a traditional panto, perfect for kids and everyone else."

Edwina will be joined by former Coronation Street star Bruce Jones and Children In Need mascot Pudsey Bear, as well as regular Northwich panto favourites Ryan Greaves, Steve Moorewood, Keeley Fitzgerald and Libby Gore.

Astrologer Russell Grant will also appear as the Man in the Mirror via pre-recorded technology.

Dancers from Masquerade School of Performing Arts will accompany.

Producer Anton Benson added: “We want to thank our regular customers for their continued support and hope they will follow us to our new venue.

“We promise more of the same fun and frolics that have become synonymous with our production over the past four years and we also have a few additional surprises to keep the audience on their toes.”

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will run for a twice-daily run from December 12 to January 2.
