People heading to Chester Races this Sunday can get up close with a famous car as Chitty Chitty Bang Bang flies in to the Roodee for the Family Fun Day.

Racegoers will be able to have their photo taken with the car and could win tickets to see the stage show at The Lowry in December.

The Sherman Brothers’ musical Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is touring the UK and Ireland, appearing at The Lowry from Tuesday, December 6, 2016 until Sunday, January 15, 2017.

The West Yorkshire Playhouse production stars Salford’s Jason Manford in the role of Caractacus Potts.

The 21st annual Family Funday will see 40,000 tonnes of sand brought in for a pop-up beach with donkey rides, face painting, the return of Titan the giant slide and live entertainment – all free for kids.

There will also be live performances from local dance troupe Razzamataz, famed for appearing on Dragon’s Den, and a guest appearance from Wirral boys, musical duo The Mac Bros, who appeared in season four of The Voice.

Elsewhere, Racecourse partners MBNA will be hosting a junior football tournament in the Parade Ring between Liverpool FC and Chester FC.

The action kicks off at 12.30pm and the teams will be looking for racegoers to support and cheer them on before racing starts at 2.10pm. Supporters will also get the chance to meet Liverpool FC official mascot Mighty Red.

Merseyrail will be cooling racegoers down with complimentary ice lollies around the course.

Tickets are £12 on the Open Course and children under 17 go free.
