Children left the classroom and entered the magical world of The Snow Queen.

They joined Matt Baker in learning the theatre and music for Theatre in the Quarter’s production of The Snow Queen, as rehearsals got under way in Chester.

The rehearsals and performances are taking place in the St Mary’s Centre, Chester’s hidden gem, where the production will be staged from December 5-January 11.

A cast of professional actors from stage and screen are working alongside singers from the community and 20 school children playing a range of roles, including a pre-show winter circus.

Artistic director Matt Baker said: “Along with some amazing acting talent, we have also found some wonderful musicians, singers and dancers. We just know this is going to be a magical production.”

The play is directed and adapted by Russ Tunney, designed by Judith Croft, film by Helen Newall and music composed and directed by Matt Baker.

Tickets from £10 (£5 concessions) are available from theatreinthequarter.co.uk, by phone 01244 500959, email boxoffice@chestercathedral.com or visit Chester Cathedral in person.
