Liverpool's Royal Court is to stage the premiere of a comedy set on the opening day of the new Royal

The Royal has been penned by actress Lindzi Germain, who is currently starring in the theatre’s Christmas show Pharaoh ‘Cross the Mersey, alongside Angela Simms and Lynn Francis.

It will be staged in June next year.

Reporters and celebrities are waiting outside the new Royal Liverpool University Hospital on the day that it is set to open its doors.

The wards are ready, the machines are plugged in and all of the patients have been moved across. Well, nearly all of them.

As the first wrecking ball is set to swing into the old building the last patient is found - sitting on a commode.

He’ll be OK though, he’s in the hands of highly trained medical professionals like top tea lady Teresa, Casualty-obsessed nurse Flo and Maureen, a psychotic mortuary assistant who is rapidly running out of patients.

Writers Lindzi Germain, Angela Simms and Lynn Francis also star in the comedy, which will feature Royal Court regulars Danny O’Brien and Alan Stocks.

It will be directed by Cal McCrystal, who previously worked on this year’s Canoeing For Beginners production at the Roe Street theatre.

The Royal is at the Royal Court from June 17 to July 16.
