For their Spring production Kingsley Players are bringing you a trio of Talking Heads.

The troop will be staging three of Alan Bennett’s famous monologues at Kingsley Community Centre for four nights from May 18-21.

Darkly comic, poignant and uplifting, this is the group's second show in their 40th anniversary year after the staging of Oliver! in January.

Matt Jones, Keri Spellman and Kath Kerry will take on the roles originally played by Alan Bennett, Julie Walters and Thora Hird.

Director Chris Mapp said: “As a writer, director and actor, I have long been an admirer of Alan Bennett, so I am relishing the chance to direct these works with Kingsley Players.

“The Talking Heads monologues can be described as romantic tragedies.

“Each of the characters is flawed and needing to overcome dramatic changes in their life.”

Bennett’s ground-breaking monologues were first shown by the BBC in the 1980s.

Matt Jones as Graham in A Chip in the Sugar

Matt will star as middle-aged Graham A Chip in the Sugar, Keri as aspiring actress Lesley in Her Big Chance and Kath as compulsive cleaner Doris in A Cream Cracker Under the Settee.

Chris said: “As each of the performers from Kingsley Players is discovering, none of the roles is simply about learning the lines.

“It takes a lot of courage to be the only person on stage and tell a moving story.

“What is wonderful about these characters is they are also tragically comical.

“We hope everyone who comes to see Talking Heads will not only be emotionally moved but moved to laugh out loud too.”
