A pupil at The King’s School in Chester has made his debut on the West End stage.

Ben Robinson, from Chester, stars in the iconic British musical Billy Elliot at the Victoria Palace Theatre as Michael, Billy’s best friend.

Ben is also a student at Stagecoach Theatre Arts School in Chester and has previously appeared in UK tours of Evita, Jesus Christ Superstar and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat as well as performing with Theatre in the Quarter in a First World War commemorative piece which toured railway stations in 2014.

Ben auditioned for the role back in June and has then been training down in London ever since.

Stagecoach principal Karen Partington said: “We are extremely proud of Ben. He is a very talented student and thoroughly deserves this opportunity.”

Stagecoach Chester also have two other students currently performing as Young Shrek in Shrek - The Musical at the Liverpool Empire.

Freya Watson and Emma Hall both from Chester have been performing in the show since mid November and have their final performances in the show this week.
