A high-energy professional dance show set in a bar is coming to a Chester venue this week as part of a season of touring.

Bar Story from Etta Ermini Dance Theatre will visit the University of Chester on Saturday, October 10 at 7pm.

This fast-paced, energetic and enthralling 45 minute show has had audiences around the country on their feet in appreciation everywhere it has gone.

Set at a transformable bar and blurring the boundaries between watching and socialising, Bar Story is a new piece of physical theatre. The work portrays two bar tenders and a punter engaged in a quirky Saturday night escapade at the local pub.

Sense of participation

The bar is used by three experienced performers skilled in various dance styles including contemporary and urban dance, as well as acrobatics, acro-balancing and physical theatre as a set to perform on and as a potential real bar for spectators before the show, enhancing the sense of a bar/pub setting, and developing a sense of participation.

Bar Story uses humour, dancing and acrobatics, storytelling and insightful observation to make an entertaining commentary on 21st century social interaction behaviour on a night out.

The show is the creation of Etta Ermini and her dance company, which was formed in 2005. The company focus much of their work on blending a variety of creative disciplines, examining relationships through dance, theatre and spoken word in particular.

Bar Story forms part of Cheshire Rural Touring Arts’ (CRTA) autumn season, taking professional shows to isolated venues across the county.

CRTA’s Claire Smith said: “This is the perfect show for anyone thinking about going to a dance performance for the first time. It’s energetic, funny and above all relatable. Who isn’t familiar with what goes on down at the local pub on a Saturday night!”

Bar Story can be seen at the University of Chester on Saturday, October 10 at 7pm. For more details about this show or to see the full CRTA autumn programme visit www.cheshireruraltouringarts.co.uk or call 01244 972835 for further information. Call 01244 515 860 to book tickets.
