Chester Tip Top Productions to stage Talking Heads by Alan Bennett

Classic monologues to be performed at Forum Studio Theatre from May 12-21

The Forum Studio Theatre in Chester

Having revived the Mike Leigh classic Abigail’s Party, Tip Top Productions will next treat Chester audiences to the works of another great British playwright Alan Bennett.

Bennett is enjoying a resurgence of popularity thanks to the success of the recent film version of The Lady in the Van but in May, the Forum Studio Theatre will be the setting for some of his acclaimed monologues known as Talking Heads.

The writer sealed his reputation as the master of observation with a series of 12 groundbreaking monologues originally filmed for BBC Television.

At once darkly comic, tragically poignant and wonderfully uplifting, Talking Heads is widely regarded as a modern classic.

The set for the production at the Forum Studio Theatre from May 12-21 will be simple - a chair, a small table, a coat stand, a bed and a selection of props appropriate to whichever character is on stage.

As befits a ‘talking head’ the movement is kept to within a small area, which also reflects the narrow confines in which these characters live their lives. The fading in and out of lights will show the passing of time.

The three monologues to be performed in Chester are A Woman of No Importance, A Chip in the Sugar and A Lady of Letters.
