Brighten up the dark days of January with a visit to Chester Little Theatre where there sizzling production of Peter Nichols’ Passion Play will tell an intriguing story of love and obsession.

Passion Play deals with marital infidelity in a unique way. At the opening, we have a middle aged couple – Eleanor and James – happily married for 25 years, entertaining their much younger friend Kate.

Kate is a sexual predator who has designs on James, which might then have given us a fairly predictable story of adultery and break-up.

But Nichols uses a truly novel element: he introduces two more characters – Nell and Jim - who play alternative versions of James and Eleanor, giving us two people playing different elements of the same character.

In this way, we are privy to the private thoughts, desires and deceptions of the two main characters.

This device allows the play to develop the strong passions and jealousies at a much deeper level.

This is an adult play where the recommended age is 15+.

Passion Play is showing at the Chester Little Theatre from Saturday, January 16, then from Monday, January 18 to Saturday, January 23 at 7.30pm. Tickets are £9 and £7.50 concessions on the first Saturday, Monday and Tuesday evenings.
