Chester actress Christabel Fox is preparing to star in a new children’s show with Salford based theatre company Colour the Clouds.

The company will premiere Aleena’s Garden on October 15 and 16 at The Lowry in Salford Quays.

Aleena’s Garden is an interactive, multi-sensory adventure for children aged up to three and their grown-ups which has been developed with The Lowry.

Youngsters will join Aleena on a journey through the seasons, helping her in her garden, creating the crackling of a fire that actually smells of wood smoke, meeting Sally the squirrel, using Makaton and much more.

The Salford-based children’s theatre company is made up of Chester-born Christabel Fox who plays title role of Aleena, Oldham-born Mark Fox (technical director), Wigan-born Sarah Birch (writer and producer), Stockport-based Catherine Kingston (composer and producer) and Salford Quays-based Alyx Tole (director).

Their award-winning production Maggie and the Song of the Sea featured in Paines Plough’s pop up theatre Roundabout season outside The Lowry in 2015.

Set in the magical space of Aleena’s Garden, the work explores the cycle of the seasons allowing children to begin to understand how they can impact their own surroundings and the wider world.

The work uses content tailored to meet the developmental milestones of the young audience.

These include visual tracking of beautiful birds and lights for very young babies, tactile puppet animals and join-in songs for slightly older children and an interactive show-pack given to all children on entry.

Makaton sign language, repetition and cause and effect activities are all tied together by a beautiful interactive set and an original score.
