Film and TV actor Tom Hughes will return to his acting alma mater to celebrate the company’s 10 years in Chester.

The star of the BBC spy drama The Game and Ricky Gervais’s film Cemetery Junction will become the patron of Jigsaw Music Theatre at its parent company Theatre in the Quarter’s celebration at The Hammond School.

The event, on Friday, September 25, will mark a decade of creating high quality, original musical theatre for audiences in Cheshire, the North West and beyond this month.

Artistic director of TIQ Matt Baker, said “Theatre in the Quarter has gone on an incredible journey over the past ten years, touching many people’s lives with its work. We have worked with so many professional artists, collaborated with other organisations in the region and have three youth theatre groups which are literally oozing with talent and energy. We are looking forward to entering our next decade with even more exciting opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to experience what we do. Our successful summer schools this year began the process of breathing new life into St Mary’s Centre, and we look forward to working alongside many of the city’s organisations in raising the profile of arts in Chester.”

A former pupil of Upton-by-Chester High School, Hughes is a former member of Jigsaw and Cheshire County Youth Theatre. His film and TV credits including Page Eight; Silk; The Lady Vanishes; Dancing On The Edge and Agatha Christie’s Marple.

Earlier this year TIQ took on curation of activity at St Mary’s Centre and launched a Friends scheme. The anniversary concert will be a musical and theatrical journey through ten years of life-transforming performance, featuring the new 50-strong TIQ Chorus; Jigsaw Music Theatre, Quartz and Rewind Youth Theatres; students from The Hammond School and special guests drawn from a decade of TIQ productions.
