Theatre in the Quarter has been enjoying terrific reviews and responses to its latest festive production of Alice which can be seen until January 10.

St Mary’s Centre has been transformed into a theatre-in-the-round for the fast paced musical production created by the same team that worked on the highly acclaimed Chester Mystery Plays 2013.

Audiences have been travelling from as far as Manchester, Yorkshire and even London to see the production following the responses from audience members.

Writer Stephanie Dale has created a new adaptation which fuses Alice in Wonderland with Alice Through the Looking Glass.

Directed by Peter Leslie Wild and with a talented cast of actor/musicians, the play appeals to children and adults of all ages alike.

Peter said: “Theatre in the Quarter is really a terrific company to work for and it has been a pleasure to work with a fine artistic team, wonderful actors and very talented local children.”

He added: “We were delighted the whole cast from another production of Alice travelled from the Octagon Theatre in Bolton on their night off to see our show. They were thrilled with it - and we have travelled to see theirs in return.”

Matt Baker has composed a new score for the play which is sung by the company who also play a variety of instruments.

He said: “I have been totally thrilled with the response to our magical Christmas play in this unusual setting. It is always a challenge to create theatre in unusual spaces, but Theatre in the Quarter has become quite adept at bringing theatre into railway stations, churches and even out on the street.”

“People are genuinely taken aback when they walk in and see how beautiful St Mary’s looks. It would be wonderful if St Mary’s Centre becomes a sister venue to the new theatre, offering a wealth of theatre and music in a simply stunning city of which our city should be proud.”

Matt concluded: “I urge people to come and see Alice before it finishes next week. Come and find out what everyone is raving about!”
