Chester has proudly been raising funds and some serious noise for Oxjam for a number of years.

At Oxjam Chester 2014, more than 70 artists, an incredible team of volunteers and hundreds of festival goers descend upon the city centre to help raise money for Oxfam’s fight against poverty.

Oxjam is Oxfam’s month-long music festival. It runs throughout October with hundreds of events around the UK – all organised by volunteers who know and love their local music scene.

Chester’s multi-venue and multi-arts festival will officially kick-off with a launch night at Telford’s Warehouse on Friday, October 16, where the Galactic Funk Militia and local touring favourites Broken 3 Ways will perform before the official festival on Saturday, October 17.

Recently Oxjam decided to take part in an 24 hour Busk-a-thon. A team of five organisers, all graduates of music from the University of Chester, decided to take on the gruelling task, with a little help from their friends.

In the lead up to the event, members of Oxjam set up sponsorship pages on Everydayhero and through support from friends and family, more than £300 was raised.

Members were joined by other friendly musicians and soon the drum kit, cajon, bongos, melodica and shakey-eggs were out in force.
