The Chester Music Society Celebrity Concert season opens with a flourish from the Nash Ensemble on Wednesday, October 9 at 7.30 pm in St Mary’s Centre.

This is an especially ambitious season which includes recitals by the Brodsky Quartet and Emma Johnson.

Charles Owen plays Bach piano suites and Jonathan Dormand (cello) and the Classic Rhythm percussion trio make up this season of six concerts.

A season ticket gives two free concerts.

The Nash Ensemble has built up a remarkable reputation as one of Britain's finest and most adventurous chamber groups.

Through the dedication of its founder and artistic director Amelia Freedman and the calibre of its players, has gained a similar reputation all over the world.

The present group for Chester is a trio of horn, violin and piano.

Richard Watkins has rapidly become one of the most sought after horn players of his generation and is well-known as a concerto soloist and chamber music player.

He was principal horn of the Philharmonia for 12 years and, in addition to being a member of the Nash Ensemble, is a founder member of the acclaimed London Winds.

Marianne Thorsen has a varied career as a chamber musician, violin soloist and teacher.

Leader of the Nash Ensemble since 2000, she is also a professor at the Music Institute, NTNU in Trondheim, Norway.

Ian Brown's varied career embraces chamber music, solo piano playing and conducting.

Widely regarded as one of the world's leading chamber musicians, he has partnered many distinguished soloists, among them Rostropovich, Szeryng, Galway, Isserlis and Dame Felicity Lott, most recently recording and touring in Russia with Vengerov.

The Nash Ensemble programme includes the horn trios of Brahms and Lennox Berkeley plus Dvorak violin sonata and Glasunov Reverie for horn and piano.
