The Lol Goodman Band are bringing their brand of original blues/rock inspired material to Alexander’s in Chester on Thursday, July 16.

Since their formation as a regular gigging band a little over four years ago, The Lol Goodman Band have carved out a niche as one of the North of England’s best live bands.

Based in North Manchester and playing predominantly blues/rock inspired original music, the band are out to prove that the blues genre is not only alive and well but evolving with some fine, well crafted material from the pen of Lol Goodman.

Their first gigging experience as a three-piece was the North of England pub circuit, not ideal for a band featuring mainly original material, but they persevered and gradually built up a following and a core of pub venues where the audience appreciated their material.

Early in 2013 they committed some of the Lol Goodman original material to disc and the result was 12 track CD Old Dog ‘n’ Licks which got great reviews in national and international blues magazines.

It also introduced the band to the listening public via local and web-based blues radio shows and a live studio session at Trent Sound Radio.

Almost a year later and the band had added so many new songs to their live set that a second album was needed which they created with the help of old friends Rod Mayall (John Mayall’s younger brother) on keyboards, David Turnbull, tenor sax and local session musician Phil Barrett, keyboards.

This produced another 12 track CD was produced and a name chosen - Tautology.

2015 is set to continue in the same vein with dates booked at Middleton Rock ‘n’ Blues Festival, Upton Blues Festival (Riverside Stage), Colne Great British R&B Festival (headlining the British stage), and Stafford Blues Festival as well as gigs at major blues venues in Harrogate, Sheffield, Redcar, Barrow-in-Furness, South Wales, Lincolnshire and London.

Now a four piece, they will be joined by well known local session musician, Phil Barrett on keyboards.
