Renowned American singer Idina Menzel said Chester schoolgirl Beau Dermott's showstopping performance on Britain's Got Talent gave her 'chills'.

The musician, who won a Tony Award for her performance in the musical Wicked where she first performed the song Defying Gravity, has shown her support for Hammond School pupil Beau by posting clips of the 12-year-old wowing the ITV show's judges with her own rendition of the song.

Menzel, who is also known for her worldwide hit 'Let it Go' from the film Frozen, wrote on her Facebook and Twitter pages: "OMG! Beau Dermott, you gave me chills with your performance of Defying Gravity on Britain's Got Talent!"

The clip was then shared more than 1,000 times by fans all over the world, all of whom agreed Beau had done the song justice and made Menzel's song her own.

'Superbly talented and beyond awesome'

One wrote: "This is truly one of the very best videos I've ever seen and I watch many singers. She is superbly talented, beyond awesome. This song is so dynamic, how truly wonderful that Idina shared this."

Beau Dermott was endorsed by singer Idina Menzel

And another said: "When she said she was going to sing this, I panicked. As a massive Idina fan and a massive Wicked fan. I knew I'd either love it or hate it with a fiery passion. I was pleasantly surprised. She didn't try and mimic Idina or any well known version. She did her own version. If I'd have been on the judging panel I'd have golden buzzered her too."
