Students from West Cheshire College have joined forces to organise an open mic night which is taking place at the Royal British Legion in Upton on Friday, May 1.

Among the leading lights behind the project are second year events management students Alice Green, who is production manager for the occasion, and Bex Wilday who is marketing manager.

This is the final project for them both as part of the two year events management course at the college in Ellesmere Port.

Bex said: “We are getting very close to our event and, so far, we have been promoting it via social networking sites such as Facebook. I have also created an event page for people to click whether they are attending or not. We also have a Twitter page - @UptonOpenMic.

“If we gather enough acts we are hoping for a finishing time of midnight. We are looking for any talents to get involved, be it a comedian, poet or a violinist!”

So far bands which have signed up to perform include The Holograms, who are students who attend West Cheshire College, inspired by Oasis and The Arctic Monkeys, who have already headlined at Telford’s Warehouse.

The event will also see a performance by a group of 16-year-old boys who call themselves Wavelength and have performed at The Compass and Chester Music Theatre.
