Singer Elvis Costello was spotted out and about shopping in Chester city centre today (Tuesday, March 15).

The critically acclaimed musician, best known for his many hits including 'Oliver's Army', was recognised on Eastgate Street by the person behind the well known anonymous Twitter account S**t Chester, who asked him for his autograph.

Costello, whose real name is Declan MacManus, had been shopping in the Liverpool FC shop with his wife, Canadian jazz singer Diana Krall.

Speaking to The Chronicle, S**t Chester who also goes by the pseudonym Antonio Chester, said: "I saw him leave the Liverpool FC shop and went over to ask for a picture and his autograph.

"I am a big fan of his work and I was very lucky to spot him."

London-born Costello moved to Birkenhead as a teenager where he formed his first band, Rusty. He has enjoyed a successful music career throughout the years, including a well known contribution to the soundtrack to Hollywood blockbuster Notting Hill.
