Virtuoso songwriter and guitarist Richard Thompson comes to Gawsworth Hall later this month.

Richard who was voted by Rolling Stone as one of the top 20 greatest guitarists of all time, will perform on stage in Macclesfield on July 30.

He is known for his incredible guitar playing as well as his unique and inventive style and has also received Lifetime Achievement Awards in Songwriting from the BBC, the Americana Music Association and the Ivor Novellos.

His songs are capable of breathtaking drama or sublime delicacy and have been covered by everyone from Alison Krauss to Robert Plant.

The Independent described him as ‘an extraordinary guitar player, probably the best this country has produced, whose style is rooted not in standard blues clichés, but in the wealth of influences coursing through the British Isles’

When he was voted as one of the Top 20 Greatest Guitarists of All Time, Rolling Stone hailed him as ‘a perennial dark-horse contender for the title of greatest living rock guitarist.’
