Power, precision and some impressive pipes were on the list for this short but impressive set from The Dirty Youth at The Live Rooms in Chester.

I have followed the Cardiff-based band's career for some time having first seen them play in an East London pub in 2006. Since then they have gained two new band members, a European tour with Korn, a record deal with Universal and a critically acclaimed debut album. Despite all the changes The Dirty Youth seem to have held on to their original sound, creating catchy melodies with heavy rock riffs.

Although we couldn't hear much of the vocals from the balcony area, once we made our way downstairs it was clear that power-house lead vocalist, Danni Monroe, has certainly not lost her voice over the years, belting out an impressive range (and one note during the song Fight that seemed to last for about a minute straight).

As well as a rendition of their latest single Alive , the highlight of the evening would have to be the always memorable Requiem of the Drunk which will have you chanting "La la la la la la let's get drunk!" all the way home.

I was also excited to try out the relatively new Chester venue, The Live Rooms, for the first time. Aside from a few technical problems, the friendly staff at this deceivingly large space create a good atmosphere for music lovers. The door staff were also very patient with some crazy lady who decided to drag a giant rucksack and camera bag to a gig... It wasn't me I swear.

The Dirty Youth's latest single Alive is now available on Itunes with a new album coming soon. For more information about music in and around Chester go to our
