A superb day of folk music, dance and song will be taking place at Hoole Community Centre in Westminster Road, Chester, on Saturday, February 28.

Organised by the people who run the Chester Folk Festival each May, the annual Folk Day is always a popular and well-attended event and this year brings to the city a wealth of national and local talent.

Beginning at midday with a chance for everyone to have a go in the music and song session, proceedings continue with the main concert in the afternoon featuring the wonderful singing and songwriting of Mick Ryan teamed with the amazingly versatile musicianship of Paul Downes.

There will also be songs with a Scottish flavour from Janet Russell, a performance from The Hut People plus local singer and musician Dave Russell.

After two workshops over the tea time period, the evening will feature a ceilidh with Maplewood Ceilidh Band whose caller will be Terry Walsh, and a folk club hosted by local band Fiddlestone.

Advance booking is advised through the folk festival website www.chesterfolk.org.uk/folkday.html .
