Billy Rowan - who performs as The Undercover Hippy - is definitely not your average singer-songwriter.

His music brings together acoustic guitar, soulful vocals, infectious reggae rhythms, and the lyrical delivery of a skilled mc.

After seven years spent DJing and MCing on the drum and bass circuit, Billy ditched the decks for a guitar and started out as a solo act in 2007.

Since then he has teamed up with some of the best musicians on the circuit, and now plays with a seven piece band, bringing together fiddle, keys, drums, bass, congas and backing vocals to create a high energy, interactive and highly entertaining live show.

From starting out five years ago playing in festival cafes for a free meal, Billy and his band of back-street groove pushers now perform to sell-out crowds at some of the UK’s best festivals and venues.

Recent highlights included performing on the main stage after Mr Motivator at Scotland’s Eden Festival, and headlining at the amazing Beatherder Festival.

Billy has self-released one album and one EP under the name The Undercover Hippy, both to critical acclaim, as well as a single release in Germany on Agogo Records.

The Undercover Hippy comes to Telford’s Warehouse in Chester on Friday, March 20. Admission is free before 9pm, £4 thereafter. Call 01244 390 090 or visit www.telfordswarehouse.com .
