A birthday mix of music and dance will celebrate the memory of a noted theatrical impresario.

Leigh Stanley: Celebration will take place in Ellesmere Port Civic Hall on Wednesday, June 4, on what would have been Mr Stanley’s 63rd birthday.

He died in December last year.

A spokesperson for the organisers said: “Many people will remember Leigh from his involvement with operatic and theatre groups, predominantly as director of numerous musical productions spanning 30 years with Ellesmere Port Light Opera Company of which he and his mother Phyll were founder members.

“It is all tribute to Leigh Stanley that so many people have wanted to contribute to this celebration.”

Past members of the society, from its inception in the 70s to the time the curtain came down on its final production in 2006, have come together across the years, and, in some cases, travelled great distances, to be part of the production marking the life of Mr Stanley and his contribution to the performing arts in the town.

The song and dance show will comprise excerpts from a variety of musicals including Oliver!, Kiss Me, Kate, Carousel , Oklahoma, White Horse Inn and Kismet, and a full performance of Trial By Jury, his first production.

The evening will be interspersed with original verse in the style of W S Gilbert to narrate his life and work.

There will also be contributions from Ellesmere Port Music Society and the Lynn McKenzie School of Dancing with whom Leigh had a strong association.

Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.

Tickets are £10 inclusive of an interval buffet when there will be an opportunity to socialise and reminisce and to visit an exhibition of costumes, photographs, stage sets and other memorabilia which has been collated by June Lancelyn Green.

To book tickets, call James and Karen Green on 07979 211859 (text during the day or ring in the evening) or for further information email jchance329@btinternet.com.

The event is self-funded and any profit will be donated to The Hospice of the Good Shepherd.
