When you pay a visit to Greggs, it's probably a pasty or a sausage roll that's at the forefront of your mind.

But now the popular bakery has announced it may start selling sushi as part of a healthy overhaul to its menu.

They are planning to increase the amount of salads, vegetarian and gluten-free foods after a surge in demand for healthier options.

Chief executive Roger Whiteside said the chain would consider adding oriental and Mexican cuisine, as well as introducing a gluten-free range and more vegetarian ideas.

He said: “We’re looking seriously at Mexican food and it’s not impossible that we’ll see sushi on the menu one day.

“We accept that the trend is moving away from over indulging in things like doughnuts and sausage rolls.

“We have our base, our identity if you like, but the key is to offer a variety of food that everyone can afford.”
