A dog's best friend proved to be a Chester city centre restaurant which threw open its doors to canine-owning customers.

Commonhall Street Social welcomed four-legged friends accompanied by their human companions to enjoy a traditional Sunday lunch.

While their owners tucked into roast rib of Cheshire beef, duck fat roasties, Yorkshire puds and vegetables followed by spiced plum crumble with custard to share, their pets devoured a canine-friendly lamb stew.

Handbridge-based Tails of the City was also on hand with dog bowls, chews and blankets to make sure the pooches were thoroughly pampered.

Commonhall Street Social landlord Steve Davis said: “We know how important man’s best friend is and what better way to show your appreciation for them than with a hearty bowl of lamb stew.”

The venue opened in November last year and is planning to hold the pet-friendly event every Sunday.
