A brand new live music venue is opening its doors in Chester this summer.

The team behind Mr Squiffy, Chester’s first vintage ice cream van with a fully functioning bar, are taking over the site where The Compass used to be on City Road, to open The Cornerhouse - a live music and comedy venue.

Adam and Sophie Roberts, along with Andrew ‘Aki' Atkinson, already run The Cellar bar and their Mr Squiffy venture which they hope will become a prominent feature at local weddings, is proving to be a big success.

Now they want to expand their growing empire with The Cornerhouse, where there will be a smaller beer offering than The Cellar but an extensive and carefully curated wine list and select spirits.

Sophie told The Chronicle it will be the ideal place to meet with friends and share nibbles, such as sharing platters of meats and cheese.

“The Cellar will continue to show sport, whilst the live music will move over to The Cornerhouse,” she explained. “We’ll have less space and noise restrictions at The Cornerhouse so we’ll be able to host a much wider music offering. We’re particularly keen on having blues, soul, bluegrass, country, and jazz acts on and we’ll also be showcasing comedy.

“Aki will continue to manage The Cellar but will very much be involved with selecting the beers for The Cornerhouse as there’s no one who knows beer better than he does. Adam and I will manage The Cornerhouse on a day-to-day basis assisted by a great team of assistant managers,” she added.

The Cornerhouse opens to the public on Friday, July 15.
