A church's community bread making activity has become so popular that a second weekly session has been launched to cope with demand.

The activity, which has been run every Wednesday for over four years by the Wesley Church Centre in St John Street, has grown steadily in popularity.

Andrew Herbert, manager of the centre, said: “It’s amazing to see so many different folk coming together, getting to know each other and supporting each other as they learn how to make their own bread. It’s like a little taste of heaven really!

“Some have disabilities, some are recovering from a difficult period in life, and others are just keen to make new friends and acquire a new skill.

“We’re very grateful to the Westminster Foundation for their grant that is funding the staff cost for our second weekly session.”

Bread makers are encouraged to share their bread with friends and neighbours, or to leave a loaf for those who visit the foodbank sessions that are also held at the centre.

Bread making now runs at Wesley every Wednesday and Friday morning including in school holidays.

Accompanied children of any age are very welcome.

The church is looking for more volunteers to join the team and help keep the sessions running.
