ANNIE (Kristen Wiig) used to own her own bakery but she has fallen on hard times and now works as a jewellery saleswoman. Best friend Lillian (Maya Rudolph) reveals she is getting married and asks a clearly delighted Annie to be maid of honour. Without two dimes to rub together, organising a bridal shower to remember will be tricky for Annie, especially since one of the bridesmaids is socialite wife Helen (Rose Byrne), who splashes cash as if it is going out of fashion. Fellow bridesmaids Megan (Melissa McCarthy), Becca (Ellie Kemper) and Rita (Wendi McLendon-Covey) witness the fallout as Annie and Helen vie for Lillian’s affections.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER (12A)

GERMAN defector Dr Abraham Erskine (Stanley Tucci) is spearheading a secret programme to create the ultimate soldier. He chooses weakling Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) as the perfect candidate for the treatment. Steve is transformed into a muscle-bound hunk and he enthusiastically does his bit for the Allied effort by portraying a fictional character called Captain America at war rallies. When good friend James Buchanan (Sebastian Stan) is presumed dead behind enemy lines, Steve joins forces with playboy inventor Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper) and officer Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) to parachute in behind enemy lines as Captain America and single-handedly take on the Germans.

CARS 2 (U)

LIGHTNING McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson) returns home to Radiator Springs as the four-time champion of the Piston Cup. Best friend Mater (Larry The Cable Guy) welcomes him back with open doors, as does girlfriend Sally Carrera (Bonnie Hunt). Italian racing car Francesco Bernoulli (John Turturro) goads Lightning into participating in a newly announced championship organised by environmentalist Miles Axlerod (Eddie Izzard), who will use the grand prix to showcase his state-of-the-art biofuel, Allinol. However, rogue cars led by the diabolical Professor Zundapp (Thomas Kretschmann) are plotting to sabotage the three races in Japan, Italy and the UK. Thankfully, secret agent Finn McMissile (Michael Caine) and rookie field spy Holley Shiftwell (Emily Mortimer) are on the case, roping in Mater, who they mistakenly believe to be an undercover American agent.

GREEN LANTERN (12A)

THE Green Lanterns maintain peace and justice in the universe using superpowers granted to them by magical rings. When an old adversary called Parallax re-emerges in the Lost Sector venerated Green Lantern warrior Abin Sur (Temuera Morrison) is fatally wounded in the ensuring melee and his ring chooses United States Air Force test pilot Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds) as a worthy successor. Hal is blessed with empathy and he slowly comes to terms with his superpowers, spurred on by sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively). Standing in Hal’s way is eccentric scientist Dr Hector Hammond (Peter Sarsgaard), who is exposed to a drop of Parallax’s otherworldly powers and mutates into a hideous harbinger of doom.

HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS: PART 2 (12A)

THE final chapter of JK Rowling’s epic story opens with Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes) stealing the Elder Wand from Dumbledore’s grave. Harry (Daniel Radcliffe), Ron (Rupert Grint) and Hermione (Emma Watson) continue their mission to track down the final Horcruxes, which contain fragments of Voldemort’s blackened soul. The quest leads to Hogwarts, where students Neville Longbottom (Matthew Lewis), Luna Lovegood (Evanna Lynch) and Ginny Weasley (Bonnie Wright) are ready to lay down their lives to protect Harry from Death Eaters including Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton) and his Slytherin sidekicks.

HORRIBLE BOSSES (15)

NICK Hendricks (Jason Bateman) is an underling at a finance company, ruled with a steely glare by Dave Harken (Kevin Spacey), who has hinted Nick will be in line for a promotion if he arrives at 6am every day. Kurt Buckman (Jason Sudeikis) loves his job at a company run by Jack Pellitt (Donald Sutherland), who treats Kurt as more of a son than the cocaine-snorting fruit of his loins, Bobby (Colin Farrell). Jack suffers a heart attack and Bobby seizes control, gleefully draining the accounts dry. Meanwhile, dental assistant Dale Arbus (Charlie Day) is sexually harassed by his boss, Dr Julia Harris (Jennifer Aniston). When jailbird Dean Jones (Jamie Foxx) plants the idea of a chain reaction of seemingly accidental deaths the three men are intrigued.

HORRID HENRY: THE MOVIE (U)

HENRY (Theo Stevenson) is a lazy boy with dreams of pop stardom, who runs rings around his Mum (Siobhan Hayes) and Dad (Mathew Horne). At school Henry and his mates, collectively known as The Purple Hand Gang, clash with Moody Margaret (Scarlett Stitt) and her coterie. A series of pranks in front of two school inspectors threatens the future of Ashdown Primary School and its long-suffering headteacher Miss Oddbod (Rebecca Front). So Henry grimly faces the prospect of attending the local private school run by Vic Van Wrinkle (Richard E Grant), where his rebellious behaviour won’t be tolerated. If only Henry and his chums could win the upcoming talent contest and draw attention to the school’s plight.

ZOOKEEPER (PG)

GRIFFIN Keyes (Kevin James) is humiliated when his sweetheart Stephanie (Leslie Bibb) rebuffs a marriage proposal. Five years later, Griffin is head keeper at Franklin Park Zoo, treating the animals with compassion and earning the respect of co-workers Kate (Rosario Dawson) and Venom (Ken Jeong). Stephanie walks back into Griffin’s life and throws him into an emotional whirl. The animals, led by Joe the lion (voiced by Sylvester Stallone) and Janet the lioness (Cher), decide to break their silence to help Griffin win back Stephanie.
