Chester Performs, organisers of Moonlight Flicks, have been awarded funding from Film Hub North West Central, part of the BFI Film Audience Network, for the touring strand of this summer’s film programme.

As well as screenings in the Roman Garden in Chester, the season will tour to venues across the region including Castle Park in Frodsham, Stanney Fields in Neston and Marbury Park in Northwich.

Running for nine weeks until August 29, there will be 49 screenings of 10 films, five evenings a week.

Thousands of moviegoers can enjoy the season as there is something to suit all ages and tastes, with everything from gritty thriller Drive to children’s comedy Paddington.

Also featured in the line-up is the colourful 1939 musical The Wizard of Oz, cult classic The Big Lebowski, vintage hits Some Like It Hot and Roman Holiday starring Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn respectively.

Multi Academy Award winning The Grand Budapest Hotel and movie phenomenon Mamma Mia also feature, and for Neston and Northwich there will be screening of 1961 chiller The Innocents while Castle Park will feature the British comedy classic Withnail and I.

Andrew Bentley, chief executive of Chester Performs, said: “We are delighted with this year’s programme, and thrilled to be working with partners across the borough, it’s a rare opportunity to see some stellar films under the stars.”
