Work on the £81,000 new riverside marina in Winsford is now complete and the facilities at Winsford Flash are now open for use by boating enthusiasts.
The project is part of the Winsford Neighbourhood Plan which aims to promote Winsford Flashes as a local and regional leisure destination.
The impressive facilities on the River Weaver were created by the Council’s Streetscene Team working with Winsford Town Council and Mid Cheshire Groundworks.
The work completed included stabilising the far bank with gabions (metal cages containing rocks to anchor the earth behind in place), creating a footpath suitable for disabled users and moorings for 20 boats (up to 40 boats for special events).
Local ward member councillor Brian Clarke said: “It is wonderful to see the Winsford Neighbourhood Plan starting to take shape. The River Weaver and Flashes are Winsford’s best assets and they are highly valued by local people. The key aim is to create a new ‘heart’ for Winsford set around the Flashes and the river.
“The new marina looks splendid. I hope it will be a catalyst for more development, as this section of the River Weaver is just one mile away from the Shropshire Union Canal. We have ambitious plans to connect the two and enable even more visitors to enjoy our wonderful riverside environment.
“I’m also delighted that during the project, Mid Cheshire Groundworks employed three local young men as apprentices to gain valuable construction experience.”
The new marina is less than five minutes’ walk from the town centre.
