Tatton Park

Treat the kids this May Half Term with a host of activities taking place at Tatton Park.

The fun includes a brand new scrumptious menu in the Stables Restaurant, Phizz-Wizzing trails in the parkland, mansion, gardens and farm and Cover to Cover , a fascinating exhibition of Roald Dahl book covers from around the world.

Visit the very special, Cover to Cover: Roald Dahl Around the World exhibition, which showcases a fascinating selection of book jackets from across the world and throughout time, until October 30.

Featuring 50 famous Roald Dahl covers and loaned from the collection at the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre in Buckinghamshire, the exhibition includes a choice of covers which are visually very different and in a number of languages including French, Arabic, Mandarin and Japanese.

The book covers also feature artwork from famous illustrators across the globe, from the iconic Quentin Blake to Jill Bennett, Nancy Exholm Burkert and Emma Chichester Clark.

Chester Zoo

A dinsosaur at Chester Zoo

May 28 - September 4.

Spookily lifelike dinosaurs will return to stalk Chester Zoo, where visitors will be free to roam among both giant predators and their prey.

The zoo is open from 10am - 5pm daily.

Amazed by Science

Amazed by Science event

Marketing Cheshire and The University of Manchester’s Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre have come together once again this year to deliver the third Amazed by Science Festival.

Fascinating subjects as wide-ranging as energy to electricity and soap to outer space will spring to life during Amazed by Science, a week-long festival linking a range of venues across Cheshire.

The festival aims to capture the imagination of children and excite families about science in Cheshire.

Events will be taking place at various venues such as Chester Zoo, Cheshire Oaks, Chester Town Hall, Lion Salt Works and Tatton Park.

Lion Salt Works Museum

The Confessions of a Redheaded Coffee Girl

The museum is to host it's first musical 'Confessions of a Redheaded Coffee Shop Girl' which is part of the Cheshire Rural Touring Arts Spring Programme.

The hour-long performance is suitable for children aged nine years or over and starts at 7.30pm

Determined to use her vocational skills, Joanie turns her local coffee shop upside down when she decides to report on the 'creatures' (customers) of the shop as if she were Jane Goodall herself, bushwhacking through the African jungle to study the chimpanzees.

In her very own "Coffee Shop Jungle", hilarity ensues, with jazzy tunes, co-worker showdowns, and even a little romance.

A one-woman show, she plays more than 20 characters and uses five different styles of singing in the same show.

Chester Folk Festival will take place in Kelsall and once again the organisers will be putting on a celebration of all that’s best in traditional and acoustic music.

This family festival mixes showcase concerts, featuring some of the biggest names around, with more informal events such as ceilidhs, dance displays, sessions, workshops, a craft fair and a full programme of children’s entertainment, including things like circus skills and Punch and Judy, provided by Panic Circus.

Day and evening tickets as well as full weekend tickets are available and can be purchased on site by going to the festival office which is located near the Lord Binning pub.

Celebrate the museum's Gothic exhibition in style with a feast at 2.00 - 4.00pm.

There will be all sorts of interesting, and sometimes unusual, medieval food to see and smell.

Plus music, costume, entertainment, and children’s crafts.

A £1.50 donation is suggested.

Beeston Castle

Siege attack at Beeston Castle

11.00am - 5.00pm

See armoured knights clash and mighty siege machines in action as the Welsh rebels attempt to take the castle from Ranulf, Earl of Chester at Beeston Castle's 'Siege Attack.'

Meet a host of medieval characters as the two armies set up camp in the castle grounds, enjoy music from the time and find out more about the armour and weaponry used in combat.

There will also be fun, hands-on activities for the kids and an action-packed programme of entertainment throughout the weekend.

An adult ticket is £8 and a child ticket is £4.80 (adult member ticket is £1.30, child member ticket is £0.80.)
