An Ellesmere Port Port theatre company is bringing a production of a much-loved fairytale back to its home town following a successful festive run in Liverpool.

For the past six weeks, Action Transport Theatre’s The Princess and the Pea has been wowing crowds and critics at Liverpool’s Unity Theatre.

Now, for one week only, the classic tale with a twist comes home to Ellesmere Port with performances taking place at Whitby Hall.

Action Transport has teamed up with the Unity Theatre for the fourth time to enchant audiences of all ages with a spellbinding new production of The Princess and the Pea.

With direction by Action Transport Theatre’s artistic director Nina Hajiyianni, music from Patrick Dineen and design by students from Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, The Princess and the Pea is an enchanting ‘must see’ for theatregoers of all ages.

Director Nina Hajiyianni said: “We started making the show here in Whitby Hall and it’s exciting to bring it back here for another year.

“This is the first time we’ve had the theatre in a traverse (audience sat on both sides of the stage) set up for years so I think a lot of our regulars will be surprised!

“Even though it was on in Liverpool over Christmas, it’s not strictly a panto – it has lots fun and frivolity for people of all ages but it is also an ambitious attempt to tell an important story and in doing so, connect audiences with something meaningful. It’s a privilege to offer top quality, original theatre for families in Ellesmere Port.”

The show will be at Whitby Hall Theatre in Whitby Park, Ellesmere Port from January 12-16. Tickets £5, £8, £20 family ticket for four. Visit www.actiontransporttheatre.org, call 0151 357 2120 or email boxoffice@actiontransporttheatre.org. Suitable for ages 5+.
