Chester Theatre in the Quarter staging new version of Alice for Christmas

City arts group to unveil adaptation of Lewis Carroll classic at St Mary's Centre from December 4

Theatre in the Quarter are staging a production of Alice for Christmas

Not content with staging two productions this autumn to commemorate the anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War, Chester arts group Theatre in the Quarter is putting the finishing touches to this year’s Christmas show.

Alice is a brand new take on the Lewis Carroll classic Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and has been adapted by Stephanie Dale in a production directed by Peter Leslie Wild with music by Matt Baker - which marks the trio’s reunion following last year’s wildly acclaimed production of the Chester Mystery Plays.

Alice is to be staged in St Mary’s Centre in Chester from December 4-January 10.

Alice’s life was transformed the day she met Mr Carroll. He claimed he could teach her to imagine and did, with extraordinary results.

Following the success of its sell-out shows The Snow Queen and A Christmas Carol, this Christmas Theatre in the Quarter presents a new adaptation of Alice.

A perfect festive treat for all the family, this magical musical play is a fast-paced, fun re-imagining of Lewis Carroll’s Alice In Wonderland and Through The Looking Glass.

Alice reunites the team behind the highly acclaimed Chester Mystery Plays (2013) – Stephanie Dale, Peter Leslie Wild and Matt Baker.

Stephanie Dale writes for stage, radio and large-scale, site specific community theatre.

Her recent work includes Passion – Line of Departure; an adaptation of Moonfleet; Believe Me (nominated for the Tinniswood Award 2012, BBC Radio Four) and The Witches’ Promise, for Birmingham REP at Weoley Castle Ruins.

She is currently working on commissions for Birmingham REP, Centric Theatre and Claque Theatre.

Peter Leslie Wild has worked extensively as a director in both live theatre and audio drama – including five years as community director at The Orange Tree Theatre, Richmond; several years at the BBC and as a director of the multi-arts company, artworcs.

His recent theatre productions include Passion – Line of Departure (tour) and Inherit the Wind and A Fine Bright Day Today at the New Vic, Newcastle Under Lyme.

Matt Baker is TIQ’s founder and artistic director. Matt’s credits as a composer and musical director also include productions for the Duke’s Playhouse, Lancaster and The Nuffield Theatre, Southampton. His most recent work for TIQ includes Over By Christmas and Silent Night.

Alice is designed by Dawn Allsopp, with lighting design by Stuart Harrison and choreography by Cariad Morgan.

Alice will be performed by Sophia Hatfield, Duncan McInnes, Anne O’Riordan, Andrew Roberts-Palmer, Ben Tolley and David Edwards.

In keeping with TIQ’s tradition of local community engagement, the acting company will be joined by young people from across Cheshire.

Bookings can be made by telephone on 0845 241 7868 or in person at Chester Visitor Information Centre.
