Chester Cathedral is holding a first birthday party to mark a year since the landmark was first immortalised in LEGO.

The Chester Cathedral in LEGO project celebrates a year of progress on Saturday, April 16 and to celebrate, the public are invited to join cathedral staff and volunteers for a free day of activities and competitions.

The impressive LEGO build currently boasts more than 35,000 placed bricks, allowing the public to see and take part in the building of the cathedral while exploring 1,000 years of history and for just £1, the public are able to place their own bricks directly onto the model.

When the project is finished it will comprise 350,000 individual bricks and recreate a scale-model of the entire cathedral and grounds.

This weekend’s celebrations will include a build competition where children can construct their own creations for a chance to win a mystery prize.

All funds raised by the LEGO project directly fund the Chester Cathedral Education Trust, working to secure the employment of a full-time education officer.
