It’s Christmas, and like every year, there are dozens of needy animals desperate to find a loving home this festive season.

North Clwyd Animal Rescue (NCAR) have so many beautiful animals looking for their forever homes, so if you’re considering getting a new pet this Christmas, instead of buying one, why not give a rescue animal the chance for a new, happier life?

Nicky Owen from NCAR said: “The important message that we all know from the Dogs Trust, is ‘A dog is for life not just for Christmas’.

“Here at NCAR we totally agree with this statement and it is very important that it is discussed fully with everyone involved in the family and think about the responsibility it takes to own a pet.

“A pet is for life and not something you should get rid of when you get bored. This is a life that you need to look after, care for, love and make part of your family.

“Whilst the pictures on the website are an excellent guide, without doubt the best way to meet your new family pet is to come up to the rescue and talk to our staff.

“You’ll never feel pressurised in your choice of pet, as we believe that the right home for every animal will come along.

NCAR have more than 120 dogs,150 cats and 20 rabbits that need to find their forever home, and while you can find all of them on NCAR’s website, we have listed some of them here:

GELERT

Four year old lurcher Gelert came to the rescue due her owners working hours. She is a very sweet and gentle lady who has lived with children of various ages. Her owner felt she would be more settled with slightly older children as she can be a little scared of very little ones. She is OK with dogs once she knows them but can be wary at first especially if they are excitable and run straight up to her. Gelert is house trained and used to being left along without any problems. She would prefer a new home where she is only left for short periods throughout the day.

LOLA

Three-year old Mastiff Lola was reluctantly returned to the rescue due to her owner's ill health. She is a very gentle girl who walks very well on lead, however if she does pull towards something then she is very strong so this would need to be kept in mind. Lola has lived with a six year old child and has been used to being around visiting children of a similar age. On walks she can go off lead and is generally well behaved around other dogs. Lola is described as being affectionate, calm and slobbery. A gorgeous lady who does have a few pounds to shed.

PIPPY

Pippy, two, is a gorgeous black and white cat who came to the rescue with her kittens as strays. Her kittens are now reserved and waiting to go to their forever homes, so she is now looking for hers. She is a sweet girl who loves affection off everyone she meets. She seems to get on OK with other cats so can be homed with compatible cats. Pippy is a confident and loving girl who will make a wonderful addition to a loving family home.

NELLA

Seven month old Staffie cross Nella arrived at NCAR as a stray. She was very scared when she first arrived but has started to come out of her shell now. She is still just a puppy so is looking for a new home where someone is around a lot during the day. She will need further training and socialising to ensure she develops into a confident adult. Nella gets on well with other dogs so can be homed with compatible canine companions.

PAM

Five year old tortie Pam came to the rescue as a stray. Pam was homed but returned as she was being a little grumpy towards the other cats. She has lived with a dog though who she got on OK with Pam is very friendly and loves fuss and affection but would be more suited to a home with older children.

SONNY

Lab cross Sonny has lived in a family environment with young children and we are advised he has always been great with them. Sonny does have separation anxiety and becomes very anxious when left alone. NCAR are looking for a new home for him where he is only left alone for minimal amounts of time. He may be suited to living with a confident dog so he has some company. Sonny has a very gentle nature and walks to heal on lead. He is a fantastic boy who needs stability and guidance, given this he will make a wonderful companion.

SABRINA

Eleven week old border collie Sabrina came to NCAR due to her owner's sudden ill health. Sabrina has come from a farm environment so will require very large exercise and stimulation levels to keep her happy. She has lived with two cats with whom she got on well. Being a puppy she will need a home where someone is around for most of the day. She will also require training and guidance. She has nearly conquered house training and being very bright she will pick up new things quickly. Sabrina would be ideal in a home who have experience of the breed.

It isn’t just cats and dogs you can adopt; at NCAR there are a variety of animals to choose from. If you think you can give one of these, or any pets in need, a loving home this Christmas, visit www.ncar.org.uk or call
